Getting off on the right foot... and left.

Well, fifth grade finished some pretty spectacular Andy Warhol inspired shoes!
These students drew from observation and picked up on details students twice their ages would have missed!
I could not be more proud of these artists!

5th Grade's Poppin!

This year 5th Grade art students will be learning about the life, work, and influences of American pop artist, Andy Warhol!

Pop art is a genre of art in which the content is mostly defined by popular culture.  Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, as well as many others were influential in this art movement in the 1960s.  Andy Warhol is most known for his repeated images such as Campbell's soup cans or Marilyn Monroe.  These would have been very popular and common images in the 1960s.  Andy felt that by repeating them like they are in everyday life, he was bridging the gap between art and everyday life.

Andy Warhol's biggest dream in life was to become famous.  Due to his creativity and boldness, Warhol's dream came true.  Andy Warhol was a printmaker, filmmaker, illustrator, and entrepreneur.
Most importantly, Andy Warhol was never afraid to march to the beat of his own drum!

This year we will explore the genre of pop art and take a closer look at the artwork of Andy Warhol.
